Golf Roundup : A 66 Gives Sherri Turner Record Win at 205 in Hawaii

Sherri Turner shot a course record-tying six-under-par 66 Saturday to score a record-setting victory in the $300,000 Hawaiian Ladies Open golf tournament at Honolulu.

Turner’s bogey-free round enabled her to finish at 11-under-par 205, four strokes ahead of Friday’s co-leader, Sara Ann McGetrick, who had a final-round 71.

The LPGA Tour’s leading money-winner in 1988, Turner started the final round one stroke behind McGetrick and Alice Ritzman.

Turner, who earned the $45,000 first prize, broke the previous tournament mark of 207 set by 1987 champion Cindy Rarick. Her 66 equaled the tournament record set by Terry-Jo Myers on Thursday.

Deb Richard and Colleen Walker tied for third at 210. Richard shot a 68 and Walker a 69. Ritzman shot a 73 and finished at 211.

Dave Hill shot a three-under-par 69 to take a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the $300,000 Suncoast PGA Seniors tournament at Tampa, Fla.

Hill had a total of 137, while Chi Chi Rodriguez, Bob Charles and Doug Sanders were tied at 138.

First-round leader Don Massengale made double bogeys on the 15th and 16th holes and came in with a 74 for a 140 total.

Amateur Russell Claydon of Britain shot a two-over-par 75, but was able to maintain a share of the lead with Bob Shearer at 210 after three rounds of the Australian Masters championship at Melbourne.

Greg Norman was two strokes behind after a 74, while Jack Nicklaus had a 72 and was another two shots back with a 54-hole total of 214.
