Testing for blood doping will be common in future major sports meets and could be added to the 1992 Summer Olympics, the president of the International Olympic Committee’s medical commission said at Lahti, Finland, the site of the World Nordic Ski Championships.

“It’s my personal opinion that we will have a chance to do it in Barcelona,” Prince Alexandre de Merode of Belgium said.

He added that the test is not yet ready for mass application.

Athletes are being tested for blood doping for the first time in a major sports event at the Nordic championships.
