Chiefs Hire Saunders to Coach Their Receivers

Al Saunders, former San Diego Chargers coach, was named Monday as the receivers coach for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs also added Bruce Arians, former Temple coach, as running backs coach.

Chiefs Coach Marty Schottenheimer said one more addition is possible.

“We have one other spot that we may add on the offensive side of the ball,” Schottenheimer said. “It may involve the tight ends to some extent. It would be in the area of computers and quality control. If we get the right individual, it could involve some coaching along the offensive line.”

Saunders was fired after the Chargers finished 6-10 in 1988.
