Share

Police broke up a gang fight near Tragniew Park in Compton and arrested 40 alleged gang members on charges including outstanding traffic warrants and four felony weapons offenses, authorities said Tuesday.

The fight began Monday evening when about 10 members of one faction of the Crips gang entered the territory of a rival faction seeking retribution for the earlier beating of a gang member, Compton Police Lt. William Wallace said. They were met by about 30 members of the rival faction, he said.

As the police arrived, several of the fighters ran to a nearby house, where police later recovered five guns and took many of the suspects into custody. Wallace said no shots were fired by the gang members or the police and there were no injuries.
