Maj. Gen. Ernest Fred Easterbrook; Career Army Officer

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Ernest Fred Easterbrook, 80, the son-in-law of Gen. Joseph (Vinegar Joe) Stilwell. Easterbrook served in World War II under Stilwell as an infantry instructor of Chinese troops and in the Korean War as commander of the 7th Infantry Regiment. In 1957, he became director of Army aviation and from 1959 to 1962 he commanded the Army Aviation Center at Ft. Rucker, Ala. He served as chief of the Joint U.S. Military Advisory Group in Thailand and deputy commanding general of the 6th Army at the Presidio of San Francisco. He married Stilwell’s daughter, Nancy, in 1938 at West Point. In Carmel on Sunday.
