Iacocca on the Influence of Foreign Lobbies in Washington

Share

I have to conclude that Iacocca, rather than expressing a genuine concern for our country, just revealed his jealousy toward the success of his Japanese counterparts in the car industry.

Iacocca claimed that “we’re being run over by foreign lobbies,” but the only foreigners he targeted were the Japanese. What about the British, the West Germans and the Dutch? Each of them has spent more money in the past few years than the Japanese have in acquiring U.S. real estate. They will have a lot more say in the future policies of our government than will the Japanese.

And concerning Iacocca’s statement that “Only in America . . . can foreign agents . . . manipulate the policies of another sovereign government,” I am afraid if Iacocca remembered his U.S. history well, that our records on foreign government intervention hasn’t been so clean either.
