Rebel Government Will Prolong Civil War, Kabul Says

KABUL, Afghanistan — The Afghan Foreign Ministry on Friday dismissed the election of a rebel government in exile as a Pakistani-orchestrated exercise that will prolong the civil war.
“(It) will have no other results than the continuation of bloodshed,” a ministry spokesman said.
The Afghan rebels, based in Pakistan, launched their new exile government Friday by demanding Afghanistan’s seat at the United Nations and calling on supporters of the Kabul government of President Najibullah to desert it.
