Shouldn’t Be Tempted

Regarding the Feb. 9 story, “Celebrity Victims”:

After reading how wealthy entertainers were defrauded in outrageous tax-shelter schemes, I wept as I took my tax forms to H&R; Block.

When I recovered my composure, I asked myself this: Why were such social activists as Norman Lear, Sidney Poitier and Camille (wife of Bill) Cosby even tempted by such schemes? One would think that they use their considerable (some reformers might even say “obscene”) wealth to further more worthy goals, such as low-cost housing for the underclass.
