J. C. Strutzel has been selected as...

J. C. Strutzel has been selected as the recipient of the 1988 Jack E. Wells Memorial Award by the California Manufactured Housing Institute (CMHI). Strutzel participated in the founding of Express Escrow Co. and has served as the company’s president since 1978. He has been a member of CMHI’s board of directors since 1986.

West Venture Development Corp. of Encino has brought in James I. Sorensen to serve as executive vice president. Sorensen will supervise the overall development and management of the company’s residential and commercial properties throughout Southern California.

Howard Needles Tammen & Bergendoff has appointed Steve Adams director of interior design at its Los Angeles office. Adams has worked on a variety of interiors projects and created diverse furnishings for manufacturers.

Roland A. Wiley of Los Angeles is one of four young California architects chosen by the California Council, American Institute of Architects, for membership in the Young Architects Forum. Members help identify and plan for architectural trends, taking into consideration the broad social, economic and technological aspects of architectural design.

The Inland Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers has named Sandy Friend president. She has served on its board of directors for four years and was treasurer in 1988. Friend is employed at Wheeler & Wheeler Architects in Claremont.

David F. Charles, who joined the San Diego-based Pacific Scene in 1984, has been promoted to executive vice president. Charles will direct Pacific Scene Financial, the firm’s private-syndication subsidiary. He will also head its property management division and serve as corporate counsel.

The position of senior designer, interiors division of Leason Pomeroy Associates, has been accepted by Pamela S. Light. She will be involved in product design, from marketing to furniture specifications and contract documentation, at the firm’s Orange County office in Orange.

Joseph J. Honick has been appointed director of international affairs of the Ceramic Tile Distributors Assn. (CTDA). He will oversee programs and activities of CTDA, whose membership includes representatives of nearly 30 nations.

Bill Schweinfurth, director of operations for Vedder Park Management in Glendale, was elected president of Western Mobilehome Assn. The organization represents about 2,000 mobile-home park owners, operators and developers in California.

Irene Pernice has been appointed to the College Real Estate Advisory Board. She is vice president and manager of HomesWest Realty in Westlake Village.

The Orange County Region of the Building Industry Assn. has announced that its 1987-88 president, Gordon Tippell, and its executive director, John Erskine, have received the 1988 Professional Achievement Award from Professional Builder magazine.

Dan Garcia, who was president of the Los Angeles Planning Commission for 10 years, has received the Distinguished Leadership Award from the American Planning Assn.

The MaceRich Co. of Santa Monica has promoted its senior vice president, Edward Coppola, to director of acquisitions. Coppola will oversee the firm’s acquisition activities in its nationwide offices. He will continue to be based in Dallas.

David I. Callahan of The Sammis Co. has a new position: vice president, construction, in the firm’s Los Angeles/Ventura County office. Callahan’s responsibilities include construction projects within those counties.

Three new appointments have been made at Carson-based Harding Architects. Richard Unruh has joined the company as director of architecture. Arnel Costa and Richard Aiken have been promoted to associates.
