In Brief : Raiders Name New Backfield Coach

The Raiders announced today that Jack Stanton, a veteran of 27 years in college and professional football coaching, has been hired as defensive backfield coach.

Stanton served two years as defensive backfield coach of the Atlanta Falcons in 1984 and 1985. He was the linebacker coach at Purdue in 1986 and defensive coordinator at New Mexico the last two seasons.

Earlier in his college coaching career, Stanton was on the coaching staffs at Florida State (1973 and 1976-83), North Carolina (1974-75), North Carolina State (1968-72), and George Washington (1966).

Stanton was a running back at North Carolina State in 1959 and 1960. He then played in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1961 and with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League in 1962-63.
