Snow fell over much of the nation from coastal Washington east to New York state, while in the Deep South, heavy rains flooded the Mississippi Delta, endangering homes and crops. Winter storm warnings were posted for southeast Washington, southern and eastern Oregon, central Idaho, northwest Wyoming and parts of Montana, the National Weather Service said. Snowfall in Washington ranged from 16 inches at Auburn to 8 inches near Seattle. More than a foot of snow fell near Jackson Hole, Wyo. Farther east, 22 inches of snow had fallen on Barnes Corners, N.Y., since Wednesday and 12 inches fell at Parish in Oswego County. Heavy rains swelled the Mississippi River and its tributaries and flooded 600,000 acres.
