Dr. John D. Abbey, 74; Helped Found Downey Community Hospital
John D. Abbey, a physician and longtime member of the Los Angeles County Hospital Commission, has died in Downey Community Hospital, which he helped found at its present site in 1970.
An ear, nose and throat specialist, Abbey, 74, was named to the county commission in 1975 by Supervisor Pete Schabarum. He also was a past president of Southeast District 10 of the Los Angeles county Medical Assn.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve, a son, daughter and three grandchildren. Services will be held today at 11:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Downey.
