New York Man Charged in Death of Policeman

NEW YORK — A man was charged Saturday with killing a plainclothes policeman in a shoot-out that erupted as the officer and his partner questioned several men on a Brooklyn street, authorities said. A second man was arrested on assault and gun charges, said Sgt. Maurice Howard, a police spokesman.
Renaldo Rayside, 23, of New York City, faced charges of first- and second-degree murder for the fatal shooting Friday of Officer Robert Machate, 25.
