Fairmont Hotel for Sale: The Fairmont Hotel chain, estimated to be worth more than $200,000 a room, is for sale in an “all or nothing” offering, Chairman Mel Swig said. “It’s almost like a public utility,” said Swig, peering at the grand facade that has been a Nob Hill trademark since San Francisco was rebuilt after the earthquake and fire of 1906. If the sale happens, his beloved Fairmont will go into new hands along with Fairmonts in San Jose, New Orleans, Dallas, Chicago and one under development in Washington. Together, they have 3,600 rooms. An asking price has not been disclosed.
