Blacks Protest Suspect’s Beating by Hasidic Jews
About 100 black demonstrators protested outside a Brooklyn police station over the alleged beating of a black man by Hasidic Jews who believed he had attacked and tried to rob a Hasidic mother and her son, officials said.
The crowd gathered in front of the 71st Precinct in Brooklyn on Saturday after a reported attack by up to 30 Hasidic Jews on mugging suspect Chris Gilyard.
Gilyard, who suffered serious face, neck and spinal injuries in the beating, was charged with attempted robbery, assault and criminal possession of a deadly weapon in an attack on a Hasidic woman and her 22-year-old son late Friday, officials said.
