The ABC Unified School District board Tuesday unanimously approved Supt. Larry Lucas’ administrative reorganization plan, which creates a deputy superintendent’s job at $83,636 a year.
A search will be started to fill the deputy’s post and two assistant superintendent slots. Charles Ledbetter and Virgil L. Hall, both assistant superintendents, resigned after agreeing to settlements of $115,000 each.
Under the reorganization, the job of insurance administrator Gary Welch was eliminated but he is to get another position. Three other jobs were redefined or renamed. Mara Clisby, director of schools, becomes director of secondary education. Doug Wolfe, director of support services, becomes director of elementary education, and Helen Fried’s title as director of educational services changes to director of instructional services.
“The reorganization,” Trustee Barbara Goul Owens said, “provides more emphasis on curriculum and educational services and concentrates administrative services in another area.”
