A survey of UC Santa Barbara’s faculty showed that 60% favor requiring an ethnic studies course as part of the school’s basic undergraduate education. The poll of 446 faculty members, in response to protests of racism on campus, resulted in a recommendation by the College of Letters and Sciences’ executive committee to implement a one-course ethnic studies requirement next fall, if ratified by the faculty legislature on March 16.
