Violence Not Condoned at Renaissance Fair

Share

Iam a professional engineer, and I work for a large Southern California aerospace company. In my spare time, however, I like to play folk music. This has led me to participate in the Renaissance Pleasure Faire, where I have played my hammered dulcimer both on stage, as part of a dance show and on the street as an individual performer. I have been a part of the fair for the last four years and must take issue with a statement in the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department report to the Moorpark City Council.

Gerry Brailo Spencer’s story of Feb. 28 quotes the report as saying, “. . . fights are generally condoned within the fair site as adding to its ambiance.” This is not true. The fair maintains a security force to police the fair site. A portion of this force exists to quell fights if they should break out, and to prevent fights from breaking out, if that is possible. They do their job with admirable efficiency, and I, as a performer, thank them for ensuring my safety on the fair site, as well as the safety of the fair’s customers.
