A few words about Metallica, one of the groups that Richard Cromelin writes of in his pre-Grammy assessment of the outlaws of rock (“From the Outside Looking In,” Feb. 19):

An Establishment invested in vacuous ceremonies and participatory meaninglessness is threatened by Metallica’s brand of brooding enlightenment.

Metallica is using the power of its music to promote clarity on timeless issues. As a teacher, I daily observe the extraordinary influence of these electronic minstrels on our young citizens.
