Local News in Brief : Probation Proposal for Doctor Rejected

Share

A panel of the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance has rejected a hearing officer’s probation proposal for Beverly Hills gynecologist Dr. Vicki Georges Hufnagel. The panel said it would review a full transcript of Hufnagel’s license revocation hearing and draw up new sanctions itself.

The order, issued March 6, was released Tuesday by the state attorney general’s office. In a decision released last month, an administrative law judge recommended that Hufnagel be placed on five years’ probation. The judge said that Hufnagel, a crusader against excess hysterectomies, overcharged patients and performed procedures inadequately.

The Division of Medical Quality, a unit of the state medical board, is expected to take between three and six months to review the evidence and recommend penalties.
