Troops from Britain, Australia, Canada and the United States launched an 18-day military exercise designed to test battlefield procedures they could use as a coordinated force in any future war. About 5,000 troops from the four nations assembled on the central California coast and nearby Ft. Hunter Liggett in Monterey County, where they will engage in both daytime and nighttime joint maneuvers, including helicopter landings on the Australian Navy amphibious ship Tobruk and the U.S. Navy’s Ft. McHenry.
