P.M. BRIEFING : Third World Debt, Hunger Linked

ROME —
The international strategy for dealing with Third World debt has worsened world hunger, the head of the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization said today.
In an unusually harsh speech, Director-General Edouard Saouma also said the agricultural policies of industrialized countries are sinking the Third World further into debt and widening the imbalance between rich and poor.
He said actions were needed to resolve the “scandal” of half a billion undernourished people worldwide.
