Los Angeles police are searching for a 9-year-old girl who left her North Hollywood home after being scolded by her mother Wednesday and has not been seen since, authorities said.

Police said Concepcion Yanez, who moved to North Hollywood from Mexico seven months ago and speaks little English, packed some clothes in a box at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and left the home in the 11700 block of Hart Street. Her mother, who thought her daughter had gone to visit nearby relatives, reported her missing to police when she did not return home.

Police said that the girl had been misbehaving and that her mother threatened to send her back to Mexico to live with her father. The girl, described as 4 feet, 6 inches tall with brown hair and eyes, was last seen wearing a green shirt, black shorts and gold earrings, police said.
