A38-year-old Simi Valley man was killed and a passenger was critically injured when the car they were riding in left the roadway and catapulted down a steep hill, police said Sunday.

Simi Valley police Lt. Richard Thomas said the two men were drinking at a Simi Valley bar Saturday night when an argument erupted between the driver of the car and his girlfriend.

The driver, Robert Trug, left the bar with a friend, 36-year-old Richard Christian of Palmdale, in the car owned by Trug’s girlfriend, Thomas said.

The accident occurred shortly afterward, at about 11:40 p.m., on First Street near Bennett Street.

The car rolled over a number of times before coming to rest on its wheels, Thomas said. Trug was found in the driver’s seat and was declared dead at the scene.

Christian was found about 75 feet farther down the embankment. He was taken to Simi Valley Adventist Hospital, where he was in critical condition with severe head injuries, Thomas said.
