About 1,700 Santa Clarita Valley residents were without electricity Saturday night after an underground cable failed, a Southern California Edison spokesman said.

The power outage at 7:45 p.m. hit homes around Tournament Road and Player Drive near the Vista Valencia Golf Course in Valencia, said Rosalie Gnam, Santa Clarita Valley manager for Edison. The cable, estimated to be 15 years old, “just gave way,” she said.

Within two hours, power had been restored to about three-fourths of the residents. The rest had electricity by 1 a.m., Gnam said.

Crews worked throughout the night to repair the cable, she said.
