Vista Group, a New Canaan, Conn.-based venture capital firm with $338 million invested in 110 companies worldwide, has opened a Western regional office in Del Mar.

Of the companies in Vista Group’s portfolio, about 31 are headquartered in California and three in San Diego: Springtime, Scientific Computer Systems and Computer Accessories.

Spokeswoman Mary Lou Brennan said the firm opened the Del Mar office to be close to its several Southern California-based investments. Managers of the Del Mar office will be John F. Tomlin and Robert C. Fleming.

“Vista looks forward to financing entrepreneurial ventures in the (San Diego) region,” said Gerald Bay, the firm’s managing general partner.

Vista Group now manages eight separate investment funds from mainly institutional investors including British Petroleum, General Electric, Mutual of New York and Cigna, North American Phillips and Mitsui & Co.
