Gun Ban Raises Rights Question
As a resident of the 34th Congressional District, I received a letter from Rep. Esteban Torres (D-Whittier) about his co-sponsoring a bill to ban the possession of military-style semiautomatic assault weapons.
I am neither a gun owner nor a member of the National Rifle Assn. However, I do strongly object to legislation of this sort. This law will only have an impact on law abiding citizens. Criminal elements will not be affected.
This bill is just another attempt by the government to take away certain rights that citizens have had since the birth of this country. This bill, under which property would be confiscated, does not even provide for reimbursement.
I strongly recommend that Torres withdraw his name from the bill and try to defeat it.
