Easter Sunrise Services to Stretch Across County

From mountaintops to parks to beaches, the message of death and rebirth will resound this Easter Sunday as several religious and community organizations hold sunrise services in San Diego County.

Low clouds and possible fog may shroud the sun from worshipers Easter morning, but the weather should be moderate, the National Weather Service said. Sunrise is at 5:45 a.m., and most services will begin between 6 and 6:30 a.m.

From Cabrillo Monument ...

The 40th annual sunrise service at Cabrillo National Monument will be sponsored by the Point Loma Kiwanis Club. The monument will open at 6 a.m., and services will begin half an hour later.

The Mt. Soledad Memorial Assn. and the Torrey Pines Christian Church will co-sponsor the 68th annual services atop Mt. Soledad in La Jolla at 6 a.m.

The sixth annual San Diego Community Easter Sonrise Service at Sea World’s Nautilus Amphitheater begins at 6:45 a.m. Sponsored by the Horizon Christian Fellowship, the service will feature music by singers Mike MacIntosh, Isabell Lindsay and Francis Kamahele.

Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pacific Beach will hold its annual Easter sunrise service at 6 a.m. at the foot of Law Street and the ocean. Refreshments will be shared after the service.

At 6:30 a.m., the Wesleyan Church will be host to the 72nd Easter sunrise service on Mt. Helix.

Also at 6:30 a.m., the 25th annual service sponsored by the Southern Baptist Ministers Conference will be held at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, Chula Vista.

At the Spreckel’s Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park, this Easter marks the sixth annual sunrise service and concert at 6:30 a.m. This year’s service is being put on by San Diego First Assembly of God Church.

A brass quintet will give a pre-service concert sponsored by the Resurrection Lutheran Church at 5:45 a.m. at the northern end of Coronado Beach, across from Sunset Park. Worship services will follow at 6 a.m.

St. John’s Episcopal Church in Fallbrook, 434 N. Iowa St., will get a jump on the sunrise: Its services will begin at 5:30 a.m. Another Episcopal church, St. David’s, 5050 Milton St. in the Clairemont area, will hold a service at 6:30 a.m.
