Ecuador to Pay on Debt: Ecuador said it will soon renew payments on its $11-billion foreign debt after a suspension of more than two years. “Within the process of negotiations with private foreign banks and after a 26-month suspension of interest payments, Ecuador will make modest and partial installments this year,” government spokesman Washington Herrera said. Herrera declined to give further details. But the central bank said payments are expected to be resumed in the coming weeks. The small Andean country has balked at repayments since the start of a financial crisis incited by a major earthquake in March, 1987.
