Perez Knocks Out Hammond in Irvine

Tomas Perez retained his California super welterweight title with an 11th-round knockout of Royan Hammond Thursday night before 1,040 fans at the Irvine Marriott.

Perez (21-3), of Moreno Valley, dominated most of the fight. He landed several damaging punches in the 10th round. Perez led on the judges’ cards, 98-91, 98-91, and 99-90, when the fight was stopped. It was his 14th career knockout.

Hammond, who is from Vallejo, is 16-3.
