State Senate President Pro Tem David Roberti (D-Los Angeles) and Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (D-San Francisco) have sued in U.S. District Court to overturn Proposition 73’s limits on campaign contributions. A similar lawsuit had earlier been rejected without comment by the state Supreme Court. Proposition 73, approved by state voters last June, set contribution limits and banned politicians from transferring campaign funds to each other. Attorney Joseph Remcho, representing Roberti, Brown and two labor unions, contended in the new lawsuit that the initiative violated their constitutional rights.
