Apple Groups Consider Lawsuits: Members of the Washington apple industry said they are considering a class-action lawsuit against the Natural Resources Defense Council, contending that its report on Alar was incorrect and caused economic harm. A spokesman for the council, a private environmental group, said such a lawsuit would be “frivolous” and easily defeated. Meanwhile, an official for Pacific Fruit Growers-Shippers, a major Washington apple warehouse, said it was studying the possibility of a suit against the NRDC for immediate economic loss and long-term damage.
