An Israeli Arab went on trial Wednesday charged with stealing classified documents and sending them to a group affiliated with Britain’s opposition Labor Party, Israel Radio said.

The Tel Aviv district court agreed to a request by defense attorney Avigdor Feldman to lift a news blackout on the espionage charges against Mohammed Massawa, from the Arab town of Baqa el Gharbiya. But the judge barred reporting the documents’ contents.

Massawa is accused of stealing the classified army and police documents from a paper-crushing plant outside Tel Aviv in July, 1987, and mailing them to Britain.
