Local News in Brief : 2 Men Indicted in Killing of Sea Lion

A federal grand jury indicted a Long Beach man and a Redondo Beach man Thursday in the killing of a sea lion that was found floating in the Redondo Beach harbor Oct. 26.

Randolph Tamio Mansfield, 36, of Long Beach was charged with killing a federally protected marine mammal. Steven Edward Mitchell, 34, of Redondo Beach, was charged with aiding and abetting in the intentional killing of a marine mammal. Both men face a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.

The 300-pound sea lion, which harbor residents named “Bobo,” died of two small-caliber bullet wounds, according to officials at the National Marine Fisheries Service.
