Lifeline Phone Service Income Limits Rise
The household income limits to qualify for subsidized “Lifeline” telephone service in California have been increased by the California Public Utilities Commission.
Lifeline service costs half the regular monthly service charge. It also eliminates any need to leave a deposit to establish credit with the phone company, and cuts in half the charges for starting or changing telephone service.
To qualify, a household of two people can earn no more than $13,000 a year. The previous limit was $12,500.
For three people, the limit now is $15,200, and for four it is $18,300. Each additional household member adds another $3,100 to the income limit.
