Weekend Checklist for Diggers, Planters

Share

For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen:

* When planting radishes, corn, carrots and lettuce, do so in successive plantings to lengthen the harvesting period.

* Feed camellias when they’re done blooming and then again monthly for three months.

* Your lawn needs attention this spring if you want it to reach its full potential in the months ahead. Aerate if needed, but definitely fertilize on a regular basis.

* If you started vegetable seeds already, thin them to prevent overcrowding when the plants are 2 to 3 inches tall.

* Cymbidium orchids are in bloom. Enjoy their delicate beauty in your garden or containers. They are no more difficult to grow than most garden shrubs.

* No room for a vegetable garden? Use containers in full sun. Many types of vegetables can be grown this way, even big plants such as tomatoes and eggplant.
