Eastern Airlines, crippled by a machinists strike that entered its fifth week Saturday, prepared to add flights between Miami, New York and Atlanta.

Eastern said it will resume daily service between Miami and Atlanta today. Atlanta had been a major hub for Eastern before the International Assn. of Machinists struck the carrier on March 4. Eastern was virtually shut down after its pilots refused to cross picket lines.

The airline, which is operating at about 10% of its pre-strike schedule, also said it will add a second daily flight between Miami and La Guardia Airport in New York.

In Houston, demonstrators picketed Saturday at the headquarters of Texas Air Corp., the parent company of Eastern and Continental Airlines, to protest the management of Chairman Frank Lorenzo. About 100 members of local unions joined in the picketing.
