President Bush today announced that he will travel to Italy, West Germany, Belgium and England next month in connection with a NATO summit in Brussels.

“Next month I’ll travel to Europe to attend the NATO summit in Brussels as well as to visit allied leaders in Rome, Bonn and London,” Bush said during a White House ceremony marking the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty 40 years ago.

The NATO summit will take place May 29-30. White House spokesman Marlin Fitzwater told reporters that tentative plans call for Bush to leave for Europe on May 26 and return to the United States on June 1 or 2.
