First Lady Urges Involvement to Help End Child Abuse

Share

First Lady Barbara Bush said today that people aware of a case of child abuse must not hesitate to become personally involved to end the abuse.

“If we know of a problem we should reach out to the parents and suggest they get help. And if we know the child is at serious risk we must not be afraid to get involved, even if that means picking up the phone and calling the authorities,” Mrs. Bush told reporters.

Speaking at a news conference publicizing the problem of child abuse, she also urged parents to monitor their own behavior and seek outside help if they think they have a problem.
