Defense consultant William L. Parkin, testifying in the first criminal trial in the defense fraud scandal, admitted he had taken $50,000 in bribes over a 10-year period when he was a Navy procurement official. Parkin was testifying for the prosecution in the Alexandria, Va., federal court trial of three officials of Teledyne Electronics Inc. of Newbury Park, who are accused of participating with Parkin in an illegal conspiracy to bribe a Navy official for inside information on a $23.5-million electronics contract. Parkin has already pleaded guilty to fraud and bribery charges for his role in the scheme.
