Local News in Brief : Fowler Recall Group Falls Short of Names

Share

Organizers of a recall effort aimed at Oxnard School District trustee Jack Fowler failed to collect enough valid signatures to force an election, county officials disclosed last week.

Of the 8,351 signatures gathered last month, only 4,853 belonged to registered voters residing within the district, which also includes part of Port Hueneme, Ventura County election officials said last Thursday.

Organizers had to gather at least 7,322 valid signatures to force a recall election. Fowler had been singled out for criticism by the teacher’s union, which is stalemated with the district in contract negotiations, and opponents of a plan to dismantle busing for integration in the district.
