Description: The 12-acre preserve nestled in rural Modjeska Canyon encompasses four plant communities: chaparral, coastal sage scrub, oak woodland and riparian. Operated since 1969 by the private California State University, Fullerton, Foundation, the sanctuary has recorded 140 species of bird and 34 animal species.

Facilities: Nature trails, bird observation porch, museum and gift shop, observatory, amphitheater and an injured-animal rehabilitation center.

Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Tours: 90-minute guided tours of the Chaparral Nature Trail are available to groups or individuals. Call for information.
