Regarding the April 2 article, “GM’s Revolution in Auto Design”:

Almost any change in General Motors’ design philosophy would have to be a vast improvement. However, the company needs a quality revolution more than anything else. I was a passenger recently in a 1989 Chevrolet; the finish, assembly and body integrity were, in a word, abysmal.

I also sold my three-year-old Mercedes 190 not long ago for more than twice the price I would have obtained for a similar vintage Cadillac Eldorado (the two cars cost about the same when new). People are waking up to the fact that GM has been living on a reputation earned in the 1940s and 1950s. Personally, I’m amazed that they are still in business at all.
