Ground will be broken Thursday for a 135-unit senior citizen apartment complex on the long-vacant site of Andrews Elementary School at Aviation Way and Carnegie Lane, Redondo Beach.

Calmark Development Corp. of Los Angeles will redevelop the site as part of the Redondo Beach City School District’s program to make use of six school sites left vacant from declining enrollment.

The Real Estate section in Sunday’s editions of The Times incorrectly reported that ground will be broken Thursday for a senior citizen apartment complex in Redondo Beach. Work on the project began April 6.

The complex, Heritage Pointe Redondo Beach, will be one of three subsidized and 10 market-rate senior housing projects in Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Torrance. At least 20% of the one-bedroom units will rent for about $495 when the project opens in 1990.
