Venice : Hearing on Building Plan

Share

Coastal permit hearings have begun on a controversial three-story commercial building with 12 takeout restaurants proposed for the boardwalk.

Los Angeles Zoning Administrator James Crisp heard five hours of public testimony in a crowded West Los Angeles hearing room Monday. Opponents criticized the project for its size and the traffic, parking problems, noise and smell it might cause. Many asked that the plans be scaled down.

The 28,000-square-foot retail-commercial complex at 601 Ocean Front Walk is being proposed by Malibu developer Stephen Blanchard.

A decision by the zoning administration is expected in a month. The project must be approved by the City Council and the Coastal Commission.
