The Afghan government said that guerrillas have cut the major supply route from the Soviet Union and are preventing food and fuel convoys from reaching the capital. A Foreign Ministry spokesman in Kabul said rebels have blocked the Salang Highway north of the city. He said security forces hope to reopen the route by today, allowing food convoys through for the first time in a week. Diplomats said the highway is severely damaged in some places. A Soviet airlift of food and military equipment continues to supply the Kabul regime.
