The International Committee of the Red Cross, in a sharp and rare public statement, today accused Israel of indiscriminately firing on civilians during a raid on a village in the occupied territories.

The Red Cross cited the killing Thursday of six Arabs and the wounding of at least 30 in Nahalin. Israeli authorities said four Arabs were killed and 20 were wounded in the raid. Palestinians said two more died and were quickly buried.

“On 13 April, six Arab inhabitants of the village of Nahalin, in the Israeli-occupied territories, were killed and about 30 others were wounded in the course of an operation by the Israeli armed forces,” the Red Cross said in its statement.

“The International Committee of the Red Cross vigorously protests against this latest tragic incident, during which troops opened fire without discrimination and without restraint,” the statement said.
