Team Canada routed Poland, 11-0, to join Sweden, and the Soviet Union with perfect 2-0 records in the World Hockey Championships at Stockholm, Sweden. Andrew McBain, left wing for the Winnipeg Jets, scored four goals for Canada.

Sweden scored all of its goals in the final period to hand the United States its second straight 4-2 defeat. The U.S., which lost to the Soviet Union in the first round, couldn’t hold 1-0 and 2-1 leads.

The Soviet Union, winner of 20 world championships since 1954, defeated West Germany, 5-1, at Sodertalje, Sweden, where Czechoslovakia (1-0-1) beat Finland, 3-1.
