WORLD : 35 Die, 100 Hurt in India Derailment

NEW DELHI —
An express train jumped the tracks in central India today, killing at least 35 people and injuring more than 100.
Many of the injured were in critical condition, the Press Trust of India reported. A Central Railway spokesman said 12 cars of the New Delhi-bound Karnataka Express derailed near Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh state. He said the death toll could climb.
