From Times wire services

A report from the Mexican Consulate in Sacramento that mass murder suspect Ramon Salcido asked about travel to Mexico shortly after the killing spree was discounted today by Sonoma County investigators.

“I’m familiar with the report. I can’t tell you why we’ve ruled it out, but we have,” Sheriff’s Lt. Jerry White said.

Consul Nicolas Escalante had said that a nervous, dirty man walked into the consulate Friday morning and identified himself as Salcido shortly after the rampage that took five lives. Two of Salcido’s three daughters were found the next day, their throats slit.

Escalante said a clerk told the man that because he did not have the proper papers proving citizenship he would have to wait for an interview. Escalante said this exchange took place at 10:45 a.m. Investigators say the killings started at 7 a.m. and ended sometime before 10 a.m.
